Special Projects

Executive Office Refresh

This four week project took place while the employees worked remotely. We disconnected the electronics and placed all the furniture on slides. Then masked the burgundy carpet, and wrapped the furniture and built-in fixtures airtight. The painters removed the wallcovering while the drywall finishers extensively patched and skim coated the walls. Meantime, the oak woodwork was caulked, primed and patched, TWICE. Then painted with tow coats of enamel. The walls were primed and painted, the masking removed and the furniture slid back into place. Finally, the artwork was reinstalled and all the knick-knacks reset.

SeaTac Information Kiosk

The job was to replace the countertops and apply stone and wood veneers that precisely match SeaTac Airport's finishes. Mission accomplished.  I hand selected the the wood veneer from a huge warehouse in Tacoma. Then had the veneer laid up on marine plywood for cutting and installation. Custom finishes were applied on site to match natural aging. The new veneer is virtually undetectable next to the existing veneer.

The worn out Corian countertops were replaced with new Corian to match SeaTac's upgraded specifications. Our stone subcontractor hand selected and installed matching black granite veneer. The electrician installed new power, data, and the ceiling light-ring. Then the ceiling and the data room were painted. Finally, we installed HDPE base, and polished the floor.

Reception Counter

This was a collaboration between my church, a general contractor, and myself working as a volunteer. I helped the general contractor with the concrete forming. The church hired the quartz countertop supplier directly. I think this functional design by the senior pastor turned out very cool.

Restaurant Restrooms - Tile Finishes

This was a seven day project that was performed while the restaurant was closed for planned renovations. We discarded the existing fixtures and finishes but reused the rough-in plumbing. There were significant lighting upgrades. Stainless steel trim was fabricated for the women's room and black powder coated metal edging in the men's was applied to the tile edges all around. The clamshell tile was custom made and imported from Italy. All of the fixtures and faucets were replaced. The doors were replaced along with matching toilet compartments.

Restaurant Restrooms - Marble Finishes

This was a three week project that took place during daytime hours while the restaurant remained open for business by using the second set of restrooms on the premises. These elegant finishes give each room its own personality. The women's is a beautiful and comfortable retreat. The men's is definitely masculine.

Retail Restrooms - Tile Finishes

This was a three week project that took place during early morning hours while the business remained open by using the second set of restrooms on the premises. The men's and women's sides of the plumbing wall were reconfigured in such a way that half the rough-in plumbing was replaced. We did reuse the existing countertops. Then installed all new floor and wall tile, fixtures and faucets, and toilet compartments.

Manufacturing Facility Restrooms

This was a five week project that took place during regular hours while the business remained open by using the other restrooms on the premises. The original restrooms and plumbing were entirely removed, leaving a big blank space. Starting from scratch, the walls, ceilings, plumbing, electrical, and ventilation were all roughed in. Then finished with all new fixtures and finishes upgraded to the modern building standard.

Beam Retrofit

This was a collaboration between my church, a general contractor, and myself working as a volunteer. The objective was to reduce the number of view-blocking columns from four down to two. I helped the general contractor install temporary supports for the 28-ton roof load. We then placed two massive concrete footings. We slot-cut four 12"x30" glulam beams. The church provided engineering and hired an iron worker to supply and install the new 36" steel beam. Duration: 6 working days.

Warehouse Column Replacement

This was a collaboration between the customer's warehousemen and myself. The objective was to replace a damaged glulam column that was supporting a 32-ton roof load. We built a temporary crib-column topped with two 20-ton hydraulic jacks to support the roof. Then replaced the damaged column and removed the cribbing. Duration: 4 working days.

Machine Shop Trench Drain

This machine shop needed a trench drain with an oil-water separator. This job was performed while the plant's operations continued all around us. We had to be clean and super-safe. This work was performed as a partnership between the owner's plumber, the plumber's saw-cutter, myself laying out the saw cuts and installing rebar, and my masons mixing and placing concrete. Of course, safety measures were maintained by me, working as the general contractor. Not shown is the epoxy flooring that the owner hired directly after the concrete cured.

Cool Salon Mirrors

This salon owner provided an interesting full-scale paper pattern to the glass cutter. Then we installed LED backlights and hung the mirrors. I just love to help people implement their creative ideas like this one. Duration: One morning.
